Conceived as a highly adaptable platform, the model repositions the Extra Yachts' design language toward a more functional, multi-role format without losing its recognizable visual identity.
Industrial Cues, Sharper Volumes
The X70 Shadow retains the core aesthetic associated with Extra Yachts, yet adopts sharper volumes and more defined geometries. The lines of the yacht are purposeful and structured, drawing on industrial design cues to emphasize clarity and practicality.
With the EXTRA YACHT unmistakable signature style, X70 Shadow introduces more rational and decisive traits like sculpted volumes and geometries inspired by industrial design, thus creating a more versatile vessel suitable for multi-functional use."
- Extra Yachts
This shift in direction is central to the project. Rather than focusing solely on leisure cruising, the X70 Shadow has been developed around versatility. It is presented as a motor yacht capable of operating as a fast day boat, a serious chase vessel, or a support platform for a larger mothership. That flexibility underpins the entire layout.
40 Square Meters of Operational Space
The defining feature of the X70 Shadow is its expansive stern area. Positioned directly at water level, this zone measures more than 40 square meters - a significant figure for a 21-meter platform. The space can be configured in several ways. One arrangement accommodates a 5.20-meter jet tender alongside two jet skis and two motorcycles. An alternative setup allows for a 6.5-meter daysailer and two jet skis. These options underline the project’s focus on transport and deployment capability.
Importantly, this area is not limited to storage. When the operational equipment is removed, the stern can be transformed into an open lifestyle deck furnished with freestanding pieces. This dual character - practical when required, relaxed when desired - defines much of the yacht’s appeal.
Supplementing the open deck is a covered storage zone of approximately 15 square meters. This enclosed area is designed to house seabobs, foil surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, and other water toys. The space can also be adapted as a gym for crew or guests of the mothership, reinforcing the yacht’s support credentials.
From Day Boat to Dedicated Chase Vessel
The X70 Shadow has been developed first and foremost as a true chase boat tender. Its purpose is clear - deliver speed, access, and logistical support without unnecessary complexity. It is designed to reach shallow bays and remote coves ahead of the mothership, provide rapid links to marinas, airports, or mainland hubs, transport tenders and water toys, and shuttle guests efficiently between anchorage and shore.
Below deck, two distinct configurations are available:
- “Shadow” layout - two crew cabins with private bathrooms, a crew galley and mess, plus one or two guest cabins for mothership visitors
- “Pleasure” layout - up to four guest cabins, each with a private bathroom, enabling fully independent cruising use
Beyond day use, the concept responds to rising demand for capable support vessels. The X70 Shadow is positioned as a functional partner to a primary superyacht, freeing valuable onboard space by carrying toys, gear, and auxiliary craft externally.
Social Space and Forward Visibility
Five steps amidships lead to a cockpit centered on outdoor living, with a full galley and a dining area that converts into a lounge. Folding bulwarks widen the usable beam and open the deck to the sea, increasing space and improving sightlines at anchor.
Forward, the wheelhouse and enclosed dining area sit beneath 360-degree glazing, delivering clear visibility for navigation and panoramic views for guests. Together, these spaces reinforce the boat's dual purpose, supporting both operational use and relaxed onboard time.
Power comes from twin Volvo Penta IPS D13 1350 engines, each delivering 1,000 hp. The package enables a top speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots, reinforcing its planing credentials.
Placed Between Performance and Volume
The 21m X70 Shadow enters the Extra portfolio at a strategic point. In terms of length, it sits above the 17m Extra X56 Fast and below the 27m Extra X90 Fast, placing it closer to the Fast series in scale and planing performance. Like the X56 and X90, it is constructed in GRP and built around speed, practicality, and open-air living.
However, the X70 Shadow also bridges toward the Triplex line in intent. The entry-level Extra X100 Triplex measures 30m, while the new-generation Extra X130 Triplex extends to 40m, both developed around larger volumes, semi-displacement efficiency, and extended cruising. By contrast, the X70 Shadow remains firmly in the planing category, yet its support-vessel capability and spatial flexibility introduce a different layer of functionality.
In effect, the model fills the gap between Extra’s performance-driven Fast yachts and its more architectural Triplex superyachts, creating a compact platform that expands the brand’s range without overlapping its established segments.
