WATCH: Lurssen Releases New Footage of 117m Superyacht Boardwalk Launch

Lurssen has unveiled a dramatic new video documenting the first time the 117 metre superyacht Boardwalk hit the water, revealing the yacht to the world as she slipped from the shadows of the construction shed into the river at dawn.

The footage begins inside the construction hall, where the yachts vast six deck profile dominates the space.

A drone then sweeps over the yacht, revealing her clean horizontal lines, sculpted superstructure and the carefully considered detailing of her decks. Close up shots give a rare view of her propellers and technical areas, emphasising the engineering behind the build.

The launch itself took place in the very early hours of the morning, long before sunrise. In near darkness, Boardwalk is seen slowly emerging from the build shed, an operation that highlights both her immense scale and the precision required to manoeuvre her out of the hall.

She is then moved to the floating dock and lowered into the water as the first hints of dawn appear on the horizon. Later in the day, the video shows the stepping of her mast by crane, completing her silhouette. The sequence ends at night, with the yacht illuminated against the twilight sky following a long and meticulously choreographed launch day.

Confirmed design team: a continuation of a trusted collaboration

Lurssen has confirmed that the owner has once again partnered with Frank Woll Design for the exterior and Amy Halffman Designs for the interior, continuing the collaboration seen on his previous yachts. The new video clearly showcases Woll’s signature long flowing lines, while Halffman is expected to deliver a warm, contemporary interior environment suited to both family living and large scale entertaining.

Boardwalk has been conceived as a private family retreat, with the owner taking a hands on role throughout the design process.

According to Lurssen, Boardwalk has been conceived as a private family retreat, with the owner taking a hands on role throughout the design process. His involvement has extended from the general arrangement and onboard flow to detailed decisions in both the interior and exterior styling. This level of personal input demonstrates one of the greatest advantages of building a fully custom yacht, where shaping the design and build process becomes a rewarding part of ownership.

Boardwalk's place among the worlds largest yachts

Although Boardwalk is a substantial megayacht at 5,350 GT, she sits below the very top tier of Lurssen’s output, a shipyard responsible for many of the worlds largest yachts already delivered and dominating the upper end of the YachtBuyer YB100. Lurssen’s giants include Dilbar at 15,917 GT, Al Said at 15,850 GT and Blue at 14,785 GT, along with headline makers such as the 180 metre Azzam at 13,136 GT and the similarly voluminous A+ and Opera, both exceeding 12,500 GT.

Dilbar is currently the true largest yacht in the world, at 15,917 gross tons.

Even recently completed builds like Scheherazade, Nord, and Luminance all exceed a gross tonnage of 9,800 GT. In comparison, Boardwalk may not match the extraordinary size of these record holders, but she still ranks firmly among the worlds major custom superyachts and sits close to iconic predecessors such as Pelorus, which measures 5,403 GT.

Boardwalk’s launch marks a major step in a project shaped closely by the owner and a trusted design team. As she moves toward completion, the new footage underlines her scale, craftsmanship, and place within Lurssen’s upper tier of custom builds.
