Announced during Sunseeker's press conference at the show, the builder outlined a new direction for the brand alongside a series of forthcoming product developments involving the revitalised Manhattan 80, and touching on the launch of Sunseeker Europe, a revised product structure, and the new brand tagline, "The Original Mavericks".
Introducing the New Sunseeker Manhattan 80 Mk 2
The Manhattan 80 Mk 2 will bring one of Sunseeker's established model names back into the lineup, although the new yacht is being developed for a very different market from the original Manhattan 80.
Sunseeker has confirmed that the new model will offer five cabins and is scheduled for delivery in 2029, though it has not yet been revealed how those cabins will be arranged.
Further information is also yet to be released on the yacht's exact length, beam, hull design, engines, top speed, cruising range, and onboard facilities, leaving the Cannes announcement as an initial indication of where the new Sunseeker Manhattan yacht will sit within the future range.
A yacht range that used to span from the 44 to the 84 model, Sunseeker describes the Manhattan lineup as being centered on owners who want to go their own way, with a versatile format designed around socialising, family cruising and indoor-outdoor living.
The positioning of the renewed Manhattan 80 forms part of a simplified Sunseeker product structure also announced at the Cannes Yachting Festival, with the company moving away from longer model descriptions and grouping its lineup more clearly around Predator, Manhattan, Ocean and Super Yacht.
How Does the Manhattan 80 Mk 2 Compare With the Original?
The first-generation Sunseeker Manhattan 80 was in production from 1997 to 2000 and used a three-cabin layout for up to eight guests. The original yacht therefore occupied a different part of the market from the newly announced Mk 2, despite sharing the same model designation.
The increase from three cabins to five on the new motor yacht points towards a more flexible accommodation arrangement, particularly for owners who intend to cruise with family or larger groups.
However, without the Mk 2's deck plans and full specifications, it is not yet possible to make a direct comparison of living areas, cabin sizes, crew accommodation, or onboard amenities.
The two generations will also be separated by more than three decades of changes in yacht design and owner expectations. The original Manhattan 80 emerged during a period when Sunseeker was establishing the Manhattan name alongside its performance-oriented models. The Mk 2 arrives as the company looks to expand its appeal to a new generation of customers while retaining the design language and character associated with the brand.
For now, the most significant confirmed difference is the accommodation: three cabins for up to eight guests on the original Manhattan 80, compared with five cabins on the 2029 Manhattan 80 Mk 2.
Sunseeker Changes Pace With Sunseeker Europe
In addition to the introduction of the new yacht, new Chief Commercial Officer Andy Groves described the company as a brand with significant commercial potential and emphasized the need to move away from playing it safe.
A key part of that strategy is the launch of Sunseeker Europe, through which the company has taken greater responsibility for distribution, service and related operations across the European region. According to Sunseeker, the move has also allowed it to acquire assets and bring additional employees into the business while creating closer relationships with customers.
The company is also restructuring how its product portfolio is presented. Predator, Manhattan, Ocean, and Super Yacht will now form the core categories, simplifying the way the range is communicated to customers.
The changes within the renowned British yard extend beyond the product lineup. Sunseeker has undertaken a wider repositioning and rebranding exercise intended to reconnect the company with its heritage while presenting the brand to a new generation of yacht buyers.
"The Original Mavericks"
At Cannes, Sunseeker described the next phase of the brand as a return to the qualities that have historically differentiated the company, including its design language, cultural heritage and more unconventional character.
The new direction is being accompanied by the tagline "The Original Mavericks," reinforcing Sunseeker's intention to emphasize a more distinctive and assertive identity within the luxury yacht market.
Marketing and Communications Director Mario Bonacci explained that the rebranding was designed not to disrupt the existing identity entirely, but to bring the brand forward.
The strategy behind the movement is ultimately intended to build anticipation around future products while strengthening Sunseeker's relationship with both its established customer base and the next generation of owners.
The Manhattan 80 Mk 2 will therefore become one of the longer-term products within that strategy, with its 2029 delivery date leaving considerable scope for further announcements before the superyacht enters production.
