55m Amels 180 Superyacht Amigos Arrives at Royal Balk Shipyard for Major Refit

The 55m superyacht Amigos has arrived at Royal Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands for a comprehensive refit, following a season in the Mediterranean. The yacht is expected to remain at the Dutch facility through the winter.

Built by Amels as part of its Amels 180 series, Amigos will undergo interior and exterior upgrades alongside technical works ahead of her 10-year survey. Ryacht Monaco is overseeing the refit, with the interior set to be updated to reflect the requirements of her current owner.

An Amels 180 returns for refit

Originally delivered in 2017 as Lili, Amigos is the 12th yacht built on the Amels 180 platform. Exterior design is by Tim Heywood Design, with interiors by Laura Sessa Romboli and naval architecture by Amels. Built with a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the yacht has a 9.4m beam, 3.38m draft and an internal volume of 671 GT, and previously underwent refit work in 2024.

Interior and accommodation

The superyacht's current interior uses a restrained palette of creams and silvers across the guest areas, with the main saloon incorporating fold-down balconies to port and starboard. Amigos accommodates 12 guests across six cabins, comprising an owner's cabin, a VIP cabin, two doubles and two twins, with accommodation for up to 13 crew. The upcoming refit will include changes to the interior to better suit her current owner, although the full extent of the planned modifications has not yet been disclosed.

Extended sundeck and beach club

One of the motor yacht's distinguishing features is her extended sundeck, which spans approximately 175sqm and incorporates a four-metre counter-current pool alongside alfresco dining, sunbathing areas and an outdoor cinema. Additional sunpads are positioned on the foredeck, while at water level the beach club connects with the swim platform and incorporates a steam room, shower and dive storage. The foredeck is also equipped with a touch-and-go helipad supporting helicopter operations with a maximum take-off weight of 2,000kg.

Notable superyacht refits of 2026

Amigos joins several notable superyachts undergoing major refit work in 2026. The 123m Lürssen superyacht Al Lusail returned to service following a seven-month refit, while the 47m Feadship superyacht Halcyon emerged from a 14-month rebuild that expanded significantly beyond its original refit scope. Together, the projects highlight the range of refit activity taking place across the large-yacht fleet in 2026.
