Aiming to create an expedition vessel with explorer-style functionality and the comforts of a refined luxury yacht, Big Naan is the first hull in the Columbus Yachts Crossover 42 series.
The launch was attended by the yacht’s American owner, their guests, and local dignitaries, highlighting the growing appeal of Columbus Yachts to an international clientele. The owner was introduced to the project by Zarpo Yachts, with Trevor van Wyk acting as the owner’s representative throughout the build.
Explorer Lines with a Luxe Finish
Designed by Hydro Tec, the exterior of Big Naan exhibits strong explorer cues with angular, upright lines and a bold silhouette concentrated around the forward superstructure. The steel hull and aluminum superstructure of the superyacht feature a displacement design with a bulbous bow and low, tapered stern, offering both seaworthiness and stability.

Interior design comes from Hot Lab, who have delivered a light-filled, contemporary atmosphere throughout the yacht’s guest areas. The overall layout is tailored to maximize both function and elegance across all decks, reinforcing the Crossover’s hybrid explorer-luxury character.
Smart Deck Layout With Crossover Utility
Despite its compact length of 42 meters, Big Naan offers highly flexible deck spaces. The expansive aft cockpit accommodates a large tender and a built-in stern crane located on the starboard side. Adjacent to this is a 17-square-meter swimming pool, surrounded by loungers and shaded relaxation areas designed for socializing and extended time on deck.

On the lower deck of the yacht, a beach club is accessed via a hydraulic door just off the aft bathing platform. The space benefits from oversized side windows and a view through the glass-walled swimming pool above, bringing natural light and a sense of connection between indoor and outdoor areas.
Volumes That Prioritize Experience
Guest accommodation onboard the motor yacht includes four cabins located on the lower deck: three VIP suites and one flexible double cabin that can be converted into a triple with a pullman berth. The full-beam master suite is positioned forward on the main deck and includes a central bed, wardrobe, dedicated office desk, vanity, and a split bathroom arrangement with a spacious walk-in shower.

Crew are housed in four double cabins below deck, while the captain’s cabin is located on the upper deck beside the wheelhouse, supporting efficient operation and privacy for guests.
Long-Range Power and Stability
Powered by twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines, each delivering 742 kW, Big Naan achieves a top speed exceeding 14 knots and cruises comfortably at 12 knots. At an economical speed of 10 knots, the yacht offers a transoceanic range of over 5,500 nautical miles, supported by fuel tanks with a total capacity of approximately 60,000 liters.

To support extended cruising, the yacht is equipped with two watermakers producing 8.6 cubic meters of freshwater per day and has onboard storage for up to 10 cubic meters. For comfort both underway and at anchor, Big Naan features two pairs of stabilizers capable of operating at zero speed.
More Models on the Horizon
The launch of Big Naan comes during a busy period for Columbus Yachts, with several new models underway across its Atlantique and Crossover lines.
Due in 2025, the first Atlantique 37m, designed by Hot Lab with naval architecture by Palumbo Superyachts. Built in aluminum with a semi-displacement hull, it features clean GT-inspired lines, a high bow, and standout deck spaces including a panoramic infinity pool and fold-out balconies. Inside, marble finishes, wood ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling glazing deliver a refined yet functional interior for ten guests across five cabins.

Further ahead, the Columbus Yachts Crossover 47 is scheduled for delivery in 2027. Designed by Hydro Tec with interiors by Hot Lab, the 47-meter model builds on the flexible explorer ethos of the Crossover 42, offering increased volume, a 5,000-nautical-mile range, and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Together, these projects highlight Columbus Yachts’ strategic expansion in the 30 to 50-meter segment—balancing Italian styling with explorer capabilities and long-range performance.
