WATCH: First Bering BC60 Explorer Catamaran Launches in Major Milestone for New Powercat Line

The first explorer catamaran of the Bering Yachts BC60 series has officially launched, marking the debut of the builder’s new multihull range and introducing a different direction for the Turkish shipyard’s long-range cruising portfolio.

The 19m BC60 has exterior styling by Valentin Design, while naval architecture and engineering have been developed around the aluminum expedition approach by Bering Yachts. Built entirely in aluminum, the model pairs full-displacement hulls with a shallow 1.3m draft and more than 3,000 nautical miles of range.

A New Chapter for Bering’s Explorer Philosophy

The BC60 has been positioned as the entry point to Bering’s expedition catamaran lineup, though "entry level" only applies within the range itself. At just under 19m in length with an 8.6m beam and a full-load displacement of 62.8 tonnes, the BC60 remains a substantial cruising platform. Gross tonnage reaches 109GT in the open flybridge version and rises to 121GT with the enclosed flybridge arrangement.

Rather than pursuing higher speeds or lightweight construction, Bering has followed the same philosophy seen across its expedition yachts - prioritizing range, fuel efficiency, stability, and self-sufficient cruising.

A touch of modernity blends seamlessly with authentic expedition catamaran DNA, uniting style with capability. Every line of the BC60’s exterior embodies our design-to-function philosophy — the very core strength of our studio.”

Power comes from twin Volvo Penta D8 450hp engines, delivering a reported cruising speed of 10 knots and a top speed of 14 knots under half-load conditions. At an economical speed of seven knots, Bering quotes a range exceeding 3,000 nautical miles, putting voyages such as an Antalya-to-Gibraltar passage within reach without frequent refueling stops.

Flexible Layouts Aim at Long-Term Living On Board

One of the defining elements of the BC60 is its emphasis on adaptable living arrangements. Across three decks, the catamaran offers approximately 124 square meters of exterior space alongside around 116 square meters internally. Owners can specify layouts ranging from four to six cabins, depending on whether guest capacity, crew areas, or private owner spaces take priority.

The design is available with either an open flybridge or enclosed upper deck arrangement, creating two distinct interpretations of the same platform.

Bering has repeatedly framed the BC60 around extended life aboard rather than short weekend use, with the catamaran format providing additional beam, internal volume, and stability compared with similarly sized monohulls. Valentin Design described the explorer yacht as balancing modern styling with traditional expedition-catamaran characteristics, with the exterior shaped around functionality first while maintaining a contemporary profile.

Efficiency and Range Drive the Engineering

Bering positions the platform around practical cruising requirements - shallow-water access, stable passages, fuel economy, and long operational independence. The aluminum construction also sets the BC60 apart from many production powercats in this size segment, where composite construction remains more common.

Fuel capacity reaches 13,500 liters, while freshwater storage totals 3,000 liters, supporting longer periods away from marinas and resupply infrastructure. The first hull has now entered the water, with sea trials expected to follow as Bering moves toward validating performance, handling, and onboard systems under operating conditions.

BC70 and BC80 Expand the Explorer Lineup

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, the BC60 forms the starting point of Bering’s current explorer catamaran lineup, sitting below the larger BC70 and BC80 models.

Stepping up to the Bering BC70 brings overall length to 21.3 meters, beam to 10 meters, and displacement to 88 tonnes. The model carries five cabins, 199GT of volume, and retains a range exceeding 3,000 nautical miles. Power comes from twin Volvo Penta D11 engines producing 510hp each, while fuel capacity rises to 16,000 liters.

At the top of the range sits the Bering BC80, stretching to 24 meters with a 10.8-meter beam and displacement of 135 tonnes. Gross tonnage reaches 299GT, placing it close to superyacht territory in internal volume terms. Range extends beyond 4,000 nautical miles, supported by 26,700 liters of fuel capacity and twin Volvo Penta D13 engines rated at 700hp.

Together, the three models outline Bering’s broader strategy for explorer multihulls - moving from the newly launched BC60 through progressively larger platforms built around aluminum construction, long-range cruising, and self-sufficient operation.
