Watch: Lürssen’s 134m Deep Blue Begins Sea Trials, Captured on Film Leaving Bremen

Lürssen’s latest flagship, the 134.2-metre superyacht Deep Blue, was filmed today as she departed the builder’s Bremen facility at 1pm for her much-anticipated first sea trials.

The departure marks a key milestone in the life of the diesel-electric giant, which left the construction shed back in June and has since completed a phase of final outfitting and commissioning.

The dramatic moment was captured by renowned shipspotter Dr Duu, whose YouTube channel has become a go-to destination for rare sightings of major German built superyachts. His footage shows Deep Blue gliding down the Weser River, one of Germany’s principal waterways, as she begins her journey to the North Sea.

According to AIS data, the yacht reached a top speed of 16.6 knots during this maiden run, which continued into the evening hours.

At 134.2 metres (440 feet) in length with a beam of 19.8 metres, Deep Blue is not only among the largest yachts ever constructed by Lürssen, but also one of the most voluminous, boasting an estimated gross tonnage of 9,000 GT.

Once delivered in late 2025, Deep Blue will become the largest superyacht delivery of the year. She is expected to enter the YachtBuyer YB100 ranking among the top 20 yachts globally by gross tonnage, and will place 24th in the Top 100 by overall length.

She also surpasses other Lürssen deliveries expected in 2025, including Project 13797 (116m) and Project Cosmos (114m), reinforcing her position as the flagship of the year and one of the most significant debuts of the decade.

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch Intelligence, Deep Blue is one of 12 superyachts currently under construction at Lürssen, which continues to lead the industry in the construction of bespoke megayachts. Unlike semi-custom builders such as Amels or Heesen, Lürssen’s approach is fully custom, though many projects benefit from shared engineering platforms to streamline delivery and ensure technical excellence.
