Third 36m Van der Valk Jangada for Repeat Owner Begins Sea Trials

Van der Valk has begun sea trials for the 36m motor yacht Jangada, currently underway in Dutch waters around the Zeeland delta, marking the final test phase ahead of her 2026 delivery.

The latest custom build represents the third collaboration between the Dutch yard and the same repeat owner, continuing a relationship that began with earlier Jangada yachts delivered in 2015 and 2019.

Designed inside and out by Nick Top and Guido de Groot Design, with naval architecture developed by Ginton Naval Architects and Diana Yacht Design, Jangada represents a clear evolution of the previous yachts that carried the same name.

An Evolved Design for a Returning Owner

Jangada’s design reflects a deliberate response to the owner’s changing requirements rather than a clean-sheet reinvention. Compared to her predecessors, the most significant change is the addition of an extra deck, which led to a reworked raised pilothouse profile and more sculpted exterior lines. The challenge for the design team was accommodating the added volume while keeping the yacht’s proportions balanced, a task addressed through careful manipulation of sheer, glazing, and superstructure mass.

She is built around a displacement steel hull with an aluminum superstructure, a material choice driven in part by the owner’s request for higher acoustic comfort. Extensive insulation and upgraded noise and vibration attenuation measures were specified throughout the yacht, extending into service spaces and structural interfaces. With a gross tonnage of 300 GT, an 8.5m beam, and a 2.45m draft, Jangada sits firmly in the upper range of what is possible within her length.

A Calm, Family-Oriented Interior

The interior follows a family-focused plan shaped around extended cruising rather than short charter-style stays. Materials lean toward whitewashed woods and restrained detailing, creating a calm atmosphere intended to remain comfortable over long periods onboard.

Ceiling heights of up to 2.6 meters in the main saloon contribute to an open feel, supported by large glass surfaces that bring in natural light and uninterrupted views when underway or at anchor. Beyond the main saloon, the interior arrangement introduces spaces intended for quieter, individual use. A dedicated gym provides an alternative to outdoor exercise, while the wheelhouse lounge has been arranged as a relaxed retreat when the yacht is stationary. Here, retractable dashboard screens help maintain a clean, uncluttered environment when navigation systems are not in active use, reinforcing the dual-purpose nature of the space.

Across five cabins, the motor yacht accommodates up to ten guests. A full-beam owner’s suite is positioned forward on the main deck, giving the primary cabin separation from guest accommodation and direct access to the yacht’s main living spaces. The lower deck houses two VIP cabins and two twin cabins. Each has been planned with the owner’s children and grandchildren in mind, with layouts and storage tailored for longer stays rather than transient use.

Deck Spaces Focused on Everyday Use

On deck, Jangada emphasizes usable outdoor space over visual statement. The flybridge is anchored by a 4.5m jet-stream swimming pool with a depth of 1.5 meters and a capacity of 7,200 liters. Installing the pool required a dedicated warm-water tank beneath the tender garage, along with careful structural reinforcement and stability calculations during the design phase.

Power comes from twin MAN D2862LE 426 diesel engines, each producing 900 hp, driving twin screw propellers. Jangada is expected to reach a top speed of 14.15 knots and cruise comfortably at 13 knots, with the displacement hull optimized for quiet operation and steady long-range performance rather than outright speed.

Opportunity to Own the Previous 2019 Jangada

For buyers interested in the Jangada lineage, the owner’s previous 32m Van der Valk Jangada is currently available on the brokerage market. Delivered in 2019, she offers a faster, semi-displacement alternative with a top speed of 24 knots, a raised pilothouse with private dining, and a bright interior featuring underfloor heating.

The 32m Jangada yacht is on the market with Y.CO and is currently asking €7,500,000.
