The 17m Outer Reef 540 Adventure continues to progress towards production following the successful inspection of the project's plug in Taiwan. Designed by Bernd Weel Design with naval architecture by Studio Delta Naval Architects and interiors by Julian Moore Design, the new Outer Reef model has been conceived as a compact long-range cruiser for owner-operators.
From concept to construction
The approval of the plug represents one of the most important stages in the development of the yacht, allowing the project to move into mould fabrication ahead of full production. Outer Reef President Jeff Druek and Vice President Danny Stovall travelled to Taiwan to personally inspect the tooling before the next phase commenced, reflecting the builder's hands-on approach throughout the construction process. As anticipation surrounding the model continues to grow, the milestone also demonstrates the steady progress being made towards bringing the new Adventure Series yacht from concept into reality.
A compact explorer designed for versatile cruising
Developed in the Netherlands, the model has been created for owners seeking long-range capability in a more manageable platform. The boat has been designed to support a wide variety of cruising itineraries, from coastal passages and island hopping to more ambitious offshore voyages. Its combination of ocean-going certification, efficient cruising range and owner-friendly dimensions positions the model as an accessible option for experienced yachtsmen looking to downsize, as well as newcomers seeking an adventure-focused motor yacht.
Flexible interiors support extended time aboard
The interior has been arranged to maximise comfort during extended cruising without compromising practicality. Accommodation includes three staterooms centred around a full-beam owner's suite, alongside two bathrooms and optional crew quarters. Owners can also choose between two galley arrangements, including a newly introduced galley-aft configuration that creates a closer connection between the cockpit and saloon while encouraging a more sociable onboard environment. A broad selection of veneers, fabrics and interior finishes further allows each yacht to be tailored to its owner's preferences.
Long-range engineering underpins the Adventure concept
Built in FRP and powered by Volvo Penta D8-600 diesel engines, the 540 Adventure has been engineered with efficiency and dependable passagemaking in mind. An estimated cruising range of around 2,000 nautical miles at economical speeds supports extended journeys between destinations, while CE Category A Unlimited Ocean certification reflects the yacht's capability for offshore operation. With a beam of 5.5 metres and a shallow 1.2-metre draft, the design also offers the flexibility to explore coastal waters and anchorages that may be less accessible to larger expedition yachts.
